One winter day, I walked into the Tropical Pavilion of the Muttart Conservatory and was greeted by a display of red and white Amaryllis. Grown from a bulb, this lily-like plant reaches about 20" high and bears a cluster of blooms resembling a crown. It felt like a Royal Welcome, so I called my watercolor painting by that name.
The Muttart Conservatory is an indoor botanical garden situated in the river valley of Edmonton, Alberta. It features four climate controlled pyramids, arid, temperate, tropical, and a show pyramid. Everything you could wish for when it comes to drawing flowers.
I am a West Coast Canadian artist currently living in the Parksville area of Vancouver Island. Many of my paintings are inspired by life here with its profusion of birds, gardens, forests, wildlife and the ocean. Others are inspired by a combination of thoughts and memories, stories, travel, and my imagination. I work mainly with Oil Pastels. They allow me the freedom to combine line and color, and therefore serve as a drawing and a painting medium. I studied art at the University of Alberta and received both my BFA and B Ed. from that institution. I have enjoyed doing the works that you see displayed, and hope that they also bring you pleasure.
