Title
Illuminated Letter J No.2
Artist
Heather McFarlane-Watson
Medium
Pastel - Oil Pastel On Paper
Description
The illuminated letter or embellished letter is usually the first letter of a page or paragraph. It is an art form that can be seen as far back as Egyptian times, but is mostly associated with manuscripts from the Middle Ages. These letters were often enhanced by the addition of animals, plants and mythological creatures.
I have created a modern day version of this old art form using oil pastels and decorative patterning.
The Fine Art America watermark will not appear on any purchased work.
