While sorting, cleaning and re-organizing in my studio this summer, I came across some watercolor paintings that I had done a number of years ago in the Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, Alberta.
When I saw the Blue Ginger plant in the Tropical Pavillion, I was stunned by its glorious beauty. About a meter or so high, the tall spikes of blue flowers are quite eye catching and the long rippling leaves create an exotic setting for them.
The Muttart Conservatory is an indoor Botanical Garden located in the downtown river valley of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It features four climate regulated pyramids separately housing Arid, Temperate and Tropical plants and a Show Pavillion with seasonal displays.
This watercolor is one of a series of paintings done on site in the Conservatory.
I am a West Coast Canadian artist currently living in the Parksville area of Vancouver Island. Many of my paintings are inspired by life here with its profusion of birds, gardens, forests, wildlife and the ocean. Others are inspired by a combination of thoughts and memories, stories, travel, and my imagination. I work mainly with Oil Pastels. They allow me the freedom to combine line and color, and therefore serve as a drawing and a painting medium. I studied art at the University of Alberta and received both my BFA and B Ed. from that institution. I have enjoyed doing the works that you see displayed, and hope that they also bring you pleasure. If you wish to contact me with regard to my work, my e-mail address is...
